The discussions and plans on all scienti?c, advisory, and political degrees to gain a fair greater “European Supercomputer” in Germany, the place the expenses on my own could be thousands of hundreds of thousands Euro – even more than some time past – are becoming toward cognizance. As a part of the method, the 3 nationwide supercomputing centres HLRS (Stuttgart), NIC/JSC (Julic ¨ h) and LRZ (Munich) have shaped the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing (GCS) as a brand new digital association enabled by way of an contract among the Federal Ministry of schooling and examine (BMBF) and the country ministries for examine of Baden-Wurttem ¨ berg, Bayern, and Nordrhein-Westfalen. Already at the present time, the GCS presents the main robust high-performance computing - frastructure in Europe. via GCS, HLRS participates within the ecu undertaking PRACE (Partnership for Advances Computing in Europe) and - has a tendency its achieve to all ecu member international locations. those actions aligns good with the actions of HLRS within the eu HPC infrastructure undertaking DEISA (Distributed ecu Infrastructure for Supercomputing Appli- tions) and within the eu HPC help venture HPC-Europa. past that, HLRS and its companions within the GCS have agreed on a standard procedure for the deploy of the subsequent iteration of cutting edge HPC over the subsequent ?ve years. The college of Stuttgart and the collage of Karlsruhe have furth- extra agreed to package their competences and resources.

CPU-time and speedup curve for a typical job on the XC6000 and XC4000 structure of the Landesh¨ ochstleistungsrechner this is very promising. It is particularly tempting to combine TFORM and ParFORM in order to reach an optimal speedup. The run-time of our problems varies from a few days or weeks up to about two months. Due to the very structure of FORM and due to the organization of the calculation it is not possible to set check points. Since the maximum CPU time at the Landesh¨ochstleistungsrechner is limited to about seven days it is only possible to submit small and medium-sized jobs.

XC4000 is based on Opteron processors with 750 compute nodes each with four cores, interconnected by 4X DDR InfiniBand. Let us mention that recently a different concept for the parallelization of FORM has been developed. The basic idea is the use of POSIX1 threads in order to realize the communication between the various processors of a shared memory machine. The main application is thus centered around multicore machines with two, four or eight cores. First tests of TFORM [4] were quite successful and comparable speedup to ParFORM could be achieved.

1) with 2Dsimulations. 3% of vector operations and up to 30000 MFLOPS per second. The performance of the code has improved significantly (by 25% to 30%) due to recent optimizations. In particular, we now employ highly optimized routines for the Thomas algorithm, written by K. Benkert [30, 31]. In the following we present some of our results from these simulations that are currently conducted at the HLRS. For the neutrino interaction rates we use the full set as described in [32], and general relativistic effects are taken into account according to [33].
