It was teaching oncology at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Nursing. When I left Madison, I became the Chief Nurse at VA Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois which was across the street from the University of Illinois. There I co-taught the master’s seminar with Dean Mary Kelly Mullane. Then, when I came to Washington, DC, I served as Adjunct Professor teaching Nursing Administration and Cultural Diversity at Georgetown University School of Nursing and in the School of Nursing at the University of Maryland.

I probably take teaching for the future too seriously. Reinventing yourself means you volunteer to teach something that you have not taught before. I keep struggling for a better way to present a course to the students, so that it makes sense. I am not the teacher who goes into the computer and pulls up and then modifies material. I am always changing the class content. Maybe I change it too much. I think the commitment to excellence, and the commitment to scholarship, is a commitment to keep learning.
